Deborah states, “There are no art degrees in my background. No prestigious exhibits. There is simply a love of art.” Her earliest memory of really being involved in art was in high school. She had a great high school art teacher that kept her motivated and encouraged her to continue her studies in the arts. She attended Virginia Commonwealth University and was accepted into their Art Education program. Before completing her degree, she says. “I met a wonderful man and just couldn’t let him get away. We married and raised three amazing young men. During that 30 years hiatus, my creativity was redirected to costumes, school projects, and redesigning our hundred-year-old home. As the boys grew up and left the house I knew I wanted to get back to my art. So in April 2008, I started taking a watercolor class and there, my art journey started again.”
Over the years Deb has worked in different media but has always been drawn back to watercolors. She explains, “It is not an easy medium. It is unforgiving and hard to control, but at the same time that is what makes it intriguing.”
Through the years Mezick has been accepted into many juried art shows and received numerous awards. She stated, “I don’t want my artwork to become a job. I feel it is a God-given talent and he means for me to do it for my enjoyment and the enjoyment of others.” She has sold paintings to many private collectors and her paintings have been reproduced and published on the front page of the Sun-Gazette Newspaper several times. Her watercolors are enjoyed by many in this area of Pennsylvania.
More of Mezick’s watercolors can be seen on her Facebook page or on Instagram. Deb says, “As you view my work, my hope is that you see more than paint on paper. I want my paintings to draw an emotion or maybe a memory from your past. I hope you enjoy.” For more information email Deb, mezickdrb@aol.com
The event is sponsored by the Bald Eagle Art League and the Genetti.
